Sand Bag

Sand bag is a lightweight, flexible geotextile container that serves to stabilize shorelines, coasts, banks and port areas at risk from erosion. Sand bag, also known as geotextiles bag, geotextile container, or geobag, is filled with locally available sand and stitched manually on-site to form a bag.
Sand bag is very effective in coastal protection such as breakwaters and groins. These "soft" structures have proven to offer significant environmental advantages over traditional revetment systems.

Sand Bag
Versatile and highly robust armor units for erosion protection of waterways and coastlines.
G-Tex® sand bag is made from robust and durable polypropylene woven or nonwoven geotextile that is filled with material such as sand. By stacking up the geotextile sand bags between the edge of the shore and the water, a barrier system can be built easily and rapidly. G-Tex® sand bag is used for various beach erosion control applications, it provide an environmentally-friendly solution to beach rehabilitation and coastal protection.

Applications

  • Riverbank protection
  • Coastal erosion protection
  • Water diversion

Features

  • Erosion control, filtration and drainage
  • Long-term durability and performance
  • Cost effective and easy to install
Used in
01 Marine Engineering
Seawall, breakwater, revetment, cofferdam
02 Earthwork Construction
Steep slope, retaining wall, embankment

G-Tex® sand bags are made of either woven or non-woven geotextile, it is the best geosynthetic product used for coastal protection and river engineering. It can be used as components in revetment construction for shorelines, coasts and banks, for bed protection and as scour fill in waterbodies. Sand bags are environmental friendly whereby they allow vegetation that provides additional protection while creating a habitat zone.

G-Tex® sand bags are versatile and highly robust engineered containers used to protect coastal and inland waterways from erosion. The material of the sand bags can consist of either an engineered woven or a composite fabric depending on the application requirements and are combined with high capacity seams to produce pillow or box shaped containers.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.What is the sand bag?
A sand bag is a sack made of burlap or geotextile that is filled with sand or soil and used for such purposes as flood control and military fortification. Sand bag is an excellent choice for the construction of levees, berms, dikes and barricades for erosion control, flood walls, and traffic control.
2.What is the purpose of sand bags on the beach?
The large geotextile sand bags allow the waves to dissipate their energy by sliding up the beach, instead of crashing into the rock wall. They also add amenity to the beach and mean a safer environment for visiting families.
3.When should you use sand bags?
Sand bags are commonly used during floods because they are an inexpensive and effective way to divert water away from the building. By stacking up the sand bags, a barrier system can be built easily and rapidly.
4.How effective are sand bags?
The use of sand bags is a simple, but effective way to prevent or reduce flood water damage. Properly filled and placed sand bags can act as a barrier to divert moving water around, instead of through, buildings. Sand bag construction does not guarantee a water-tight seal, but is satisfactory for use in most situations.
